Roman Catholic Gothic
In western Europe, apart from castles, the biggest and most impressive medieval buildings are the great Monasteries, Abbeys Cathedrals and churches built by the Roman Catholic Church.
The biggest cathedrals were built during the Gothic era when the pointed arch allowed churches to soar well above their romanesque predecessors.
Georgian Orthodox Architecture
Georgia ( present day Republic of Georgia) was the fist country to fully adopt Christianity as its states religion. During the Medieval Era, Georgia has a Golden Age during which incredible Cathedrals were built with drum shaped central towers. This distinctive architecture is only found in these far eastern parts of Europe.
It is to the to great unknown medieval stone masons whose skill and faith allowed them to push Gothic architecture to incredible limits that the photos in this gallery are dedicated.
