Nuaghe Towers Photos
Since ancient times wealthy and aristocracy have always fortified their houses against unwelcome guests. Some of the oldest examples of fortified dwellings can be found in Sardina. Here the Iron Age Nuragic people built over 600 defensive Nuraghe Towers.
Images of Fortified Houses
In places where there were no great castles to retreat to in times of trouble, people had to fortify their houses. The photos how some of the humblest examples of tower houses in Svaneti in the high Caucasus mountains of the Republic of Georgia. These humble dwellings are contrasted by photos of the best English example of a fortified manor house, Stokesay Castle.
Photos of French Chateau
The wealthy built more splendid fortified houses of which some of the greatest examples can be seen in the Loire Valley in France. Opulent Chateau can be seen there built by the French aristocracy, Some of the great Chateau were made to look like castles with elaborate fairy tale turrets.
