Stone – Beautiful Prehistoric Historic Place Prints – Stone Circles. Since ancient times humans have been carving petroglyphs into stone of creating sacred places out of stone monoliths. It is to our creative ancestors who left us messages in stone that this gallery is dedicated, Black & white art photos by photographer Paul E Williams.

Some of the most spectacular and awe inspiring monuments our ancestors left us can be found in Brittany and the British Isles. The great standing stone circles and stone dolmen are truly spectacular. The most famous is Stonehenge with its huge standing stone. Less well known are the great standing stone circles of Ring O Brodgar on the Isle of Orkney. For sheer volume though the thousand of standing stones at Carnac Brittany can’t be beaten.
