Before World War II rural areas of Britain would have had Pig Killing Days. Alan Bennet celebrates this idea in Private Functions. I was in Hungary one Christmas staying with Mari Törőcsik at her house in Velem. Their neighbour was killing a pig so I eagerly went to record the event.
