In the 12 and 13th century Dunwich was a wealthy thriving port as big as London. In 1286 a succession of storm surges hit the East Anglian coast. This was followed by a great storm in 1287. Finally and further storms in the 1300’s submerged Dunwich under the sea where it remains today. The village has shrunk from a great city to a tiny village of 84 people. In the summer the wonderfully peaceful shingle beach with wild sea flowers.
