Day Tripper – Truck Show Pickering is a street art photo series by photographer Paul E Williams taken in summer1987.
“The Pickering Truck Show proved that any excuse for a trip out will do for the average Yorkshire man. Few would expect that a show ground field full of lorries with a few monster trucks would pull in huge crowds, but they would be wrong.
As long as the show has a beer tent and a fun fair, thousands paid to watch a parade of lorries, that they can see rolling down any road in the UK for free.
There is something compelling about these shows though. Perhaps its the innocence of the event. It is difficult being disappointed when so little is promised. There is a chance to see monster trucks close up and take the kids on the dogems and a good day out is had by all. At the end of this series I have included a set of photos taken at Flamingo land theme park close to Pickering. Somehow they seem to go together . Enjoy.”
