In Search of Photos in the Wonderful Beautiful Montmatre

First and foremost Paris is famous as a romantic city, and one of its most romantic sites to visit are the steps of Sacré Coeur Church perched on top of Montmatre hill. The picturesque Montmatre district of Paris is famous for the small roads that lead up a steep hill to the Basilica de Sacré Coeur. At the top is a panoramic view across the roof tops of Paris is made for artist and photographers alike. 

Artistic Montmatre

Artistic Paris without Montmatre is unthinkable, especially as the apartments in the high terraced houses of Montmatre, used to house some of the great artists that made Paris a centre of great art. Today artists still flock to paint Montmatre and sell their painting to the hoards of tourists that visit Sacré Coeur every day. 

Photo Opportunity

For reportage and street photographers Montmatre is one of the great places to photograph in Paris. That’s not because of the Sacré Coeur church, which I personally find rather ugly, its because everyone is so busy taking photos of each other, that photographers taking photos of them become invisible. That makes it easier to observe and capture the moment without any reticence on the subjects part. 

I took these photos as part of my Day Tripper series of photos that I have been working on for many years.
