Photos of the Neolithic Trethevy Quoit burial chamber

Photos of the giant’s house or Trethevy Quoit is a fine example of a Neolithic portal tomb built between 3700-3500 BC. A well-preserved megalithic structure between St Cleer and Darite in Cornwall, United Kingdom

6 upright stones are topped by a huge flat stone weighing about 10 tons. This created a chamber that would have originally been covered by an earth mound and accessed through the opening at the end of the quoit.

Unlike other portal tombs in Cornwall that have fixed entrance stones the entrance stone to Trethevy Quoit is removable.

With 2 anti-chambers Trethevy Quoit is rare amongst Cornish quoits. Trethevy Quoit is considered to be the best conserved neolithic portal tomb in the British Isles.
