Photos of Tamuli Stones Sardinia

Photos of the curious Tamuli prehistoric nuragic sculpture, the Prehistoric Nuragic Complex of Tamuli, Macomer, Sardinia.

The conical stone betyls, possibly representing female fertility with 2 small carved breasts, are probably nuragic sacred stones.

Situated 6km away from the town of Macomer The Prehistoric Nuragic Complex of Tamuli archaeological site is at the centre of a network of Nuraghe which almost form a protective circle to Tamuli.

The Prehistoric Nuragic Complex of Tamuli contains ruins of Giants tombs with standing nuragic conical stone betyls which have stylised female breasts carved on one side.

The meaning and purpose of these nuragic betyls can only be guessed at but the proximity of the Giants tombs suggest that they, and the site had some ritual purpose.

Female Tamuli betyls seem to suggest fertility and could have represented rebirth for those buried in the Giants tombs. Nearby to the Tamuli betyls and Giants toms is a Nuraghe with a small village with 6 circular huts.

It will probably never be known how The Prehistoric Nuragic Complex of Tamuli site was used and it remains one of the most enigmatic Nuragic sites in Sardinia.
