Castleton 6 Photo Prints – Wonderful Autumnal Colours herald Winter
In most of Britain we don’t get the really spectacular autumn colours that are seen in the eastern USA, but with global warming autumn seems to be slower and lasts longer, ended by the first heavy frost. 100 years ago autumn would have been a busy time in Castleton when fruit and vegetables were collected and stored for use through the winter.
The patina of time lies heavily on Castleton for those who care to look. Old Mills, horse troughs and horse mounting steps can still be seen reminding us of the forgotten people who lived in and built Castleton. Living close to the annual cycle and relying on produce we grow ourselves is mostly alien to modern western man. This is a mistake in our evolution and one we will pay heavily for as the effects of global warming challenge our fragile civilisation.
